Legendary Arsenal striker Ian Wright has revealed he almost joined their London rivals in 1996. Wright is considered a legend for the Gunners having scored 185 goals for the club. With only Thierry Henry scoring more for the Gunners.

However, Wright almost had to leave Arsenal when Bruce Rioch was in charge.

Speaking to Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football. he said: “When Bruce Rioch came I almost went to Chelsea. Because I thought I would have to leave because of Arsenal probably won’t get rid of the manager they just appointed.”

“It was a difficult time for me. Obviously it was the best decision that I didn’t go. But Arsene Wenger came in and things started to change. Dennis Bergkamp came in, Patrick Vieira came in. It started happening.”
