Slovakia coach Francesco Calzona insists he is proud of his players despite their 2-1 extra-time defeat to England in the last 16 of Football Euro 2024.
“I am proud. We played a great game against a world-class team and one of the favourites. We gave England very few chances. We were so close to qualifying. Unfortunately we didn’t. In extra time, we spent half of the time in the opponent’s half. I am so proud of my Slovakia team.”UFABET
“It’s a privilege to coach these players. They make a difference on the pitch and I’m so grateful to have them.”
Meanwhile, Calzona said of England’s goal: “We conceded a goal with seconds left from a player who plays for Real Madrid. It’s a little bit of time and you get punished. Maybe we should have prevented it, but that’s what happened.”
Finally, Calzona spoke about Slovakia’s performance in the tournament: “I want to say again how proud I am of my team. I told them they did a great job. They were outstanding. We can compete with any team. We played offensive football and we had chances to score. I am very proud of them. Obviously they are very disappointed because we almost did it, but this is football.”
